The design process

PLANNING

Structuring the creative and abstract design process and explorative process.

EXPLORING

Divergent exploring and concept generation within the digital twin technology. 30 different design concepts were generated and embodied trough sketching.

CREATING

Convergent design process, shaping concepts trough participative design activities such as workshopping and affinity diagrams. The focus was to explore contrast and inclusivity within the concept.

PROTOTYPING

Refining user-friendly interactivity at every stage, I used insights from participatory design to craft an intuitive interface that brings the concept of a digital dermatologist to users' pockets.

Exploring trough sketches

Through extensive research, I gained a solid understanding of digital twin technology and its potential applications. I then engaged in a divergent ideation process, exploring various directions and generating 30 distinct concepts, each visualized through sketches for rapid iteration. From this pool of ideas, I selected three sketches that showed the most potential and aligned with my vision for digital twin applications. These concepts were chosen based on their innovation and relevance to real-world use cases. I focused on further developing these sketches, refining their functionality, user experience, and technological feasibility to transform them into fully realized concepts with the potential to make an impact across industries.

Participatory design activities

After selecting adequate concept sketches, the SCAMPER method was used to explore different ways to improve and innovate the designs. SCAMPER stands for Substitute, Combine, Adapt, Modify, Put to another use, Eliminate, and Reverse, each prompting unique perspectives on concept development.

I faclicitated the session, introducing each SCAMPER category one at a time and posing targeted discussion questions. To encourage spontaneous and unfiltered thinking, a 3-minute timer was set for each category. Participants engaged in rapid idea generation, exploring alternative solutions, modifications, and new applications for the concepts.

Shaping and conceptualizing in a Low-Fidelity prototype

Shaping user friendly interactivity with every iteration. Trough the final stage of the design process I focused on the results from the participative design activities and strived to create a user friendly interface that embodied the core concept - to realize the concept of a digital dermatologist in the users pocket.

Key takeaways

✦ INSIGHT

The main insight from the projects that stand out is regarding the impact and importance participatory design activities such as workshops during the design process. By using cooperative design activities the project could tap info a diversity of perspectives and highlight both risks and opportunities within the design concept, to elucidate further it also contributed to shape the abstract thoughts into concrete user friendly design features.

✦ IMPACT

The skincare industry is expanding year by year, and for the consumers that means a grater range of products from traditional to medical grade skincare products. Since the every day consumer today has the opportunity to incorporate skincare with active ingredients to transform their skin, the wrong constellation of products can also lead to skin damage. This shows the importance of a service with lets you enter the specifics of the customers skin health and care thereafter incorporation of new products to digitally generate results without having to risk unnecessary damage to the customers skin or wallet.
